What have we done to the Elves?

Basically, I was watching Family Guy Christmas Special, the one where Santa was over-worked due to the population of the world and he demand of presents. And I thought, what about in real-life, are the real magical elves having difficulty keeping up? What if Santa had to result to drastic measures and make them into Cyborgs?
